A CIRCLE FOR CALLANISH

A CD by JILL SMITH

CD FrontA CYCLE OF POEMS CELEBRATING THE CIRCLE OF THE YEAR LIVED IN THE HEBRIDES, READ IN HONOUR OF THE CALLANISH STONES

INCLUDES SONG ‘THIS MY HOME’ BY SAFFRON PAFFRON AND DUNCAN ROWE.

CD innerFor 10 years (1986-96) artist and writer Jill Smith lived on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland; living without electricity; cutting her own peats for the winter fires; living the cycle of dark and light and celebrating the turning circle of the year at the ancient and sacred sites of the Islands – its stones, its wells, its mountains… As she lived this powerful time with all its ups and downs, she wrote a cycle of poems to mark the turning year. This she often performed with slides of her artwork. Now for the first time she has recorded this moving and intensely personal experience. Her daughter Saffron, with friend Duncan Rowe, turned one of the most poignant of her poems into the lovely song ‘This My Home’ which is here beautifully sung by Saffron to open and close the cycle.
