Pumpkin chutney
Pumpkin doesn’t have much flavour on it’s own but our pumpkin chutney certainly packs a punch. The subtle blending of three different spices makes this a perfect partner for a strong cheese, so if you like a mature cheddar then this is the chutney for you. We make most of our pumpkin chutney for the year between October and December, working in harmony with the seasons when the pumpkins are available in abundance. We get many of our pumpkins from our local grower, Secretts of Milford, after their pumpkin week at the end of October to avoid any left-over pumpkins going to waste.
Our pumpkin chutney is now 25% bigger
We have listened to feedback from our customers and now make this chutney in our new, larger jars. This means you can enjoy even more pumpkin chutney for longer.
The origin of chutney
Chutney originates from India and is made from combining fruit or vegetable with spices, an acid and a sweetener, although our pumpkin chutney is definitely home grown. Rather than sugar, the main preservative in chutney is vinegar. All of our chutneys take several hours to cook and should be allowed to mature for at least six weeks before eating to allow the flavours to blend and mellow, producing the characteristic rich fruity flavour. We use soft brown cane sugar in all of our chutneys and do not add any artificial flavours, preservatives or sweeteners, only 100% natural ingredients.
Our chutneys will be fine kept in a cupboard, larder or other cool, dark, dry place for many months; once opened they should be refrigerated and used within 3-4 weeks.
